Two Silver Medals Awarded by Underwaterphotgraphy.com

It's not every day that you get nominated as a potential winner of a category on the website: www.underwaterphotgraphy.com

To my amazement I got 3 final round nominations of which, two won Silver Medals!

"Point me in the right Direction" - Silver Medal - Category: Wide Angle Marine Life

The above photograph was taken on most probably my favorite section of reef in Sodwana, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa namely Mellow Yellow.

Large numbers of fish gather at this most southern tip of the reef, it is a section that always allows for great photographic opportunities.

Colin and Maddy from Amoray Diving have always been our hosts when visiting Sodwana. Thanks to their professionalism and excellent knowledge of the reefs of Sodwana Bay, they inadvertently allowed me to get some awesome pictures. "Point me in the right direction" being one of them. Thanks Guys, you rock.

"In the mix" - Silver Medal - Category: Sharks

This one was taken at most probably the best shark diving location in the world, Shark Park, Rocky Bay, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

Thanks to Mark & Gail from Blue Wilderness for their amazing contribution to getting this picture and the one below, these photo's would not have been possible without the knowledge Mark has when working with these awesome creatures. You guys are the best.

Hopefully these pictures will contribute in some way to the preservation of the shark species which is seriously under threat at this very moment, it may even be to late. Goverments around the world are not doing enough to stop the needless and sensless slaughter of sharks!!! To all the hi powered bureaucrats out there, DO SOMETHING!! Make a difference and ban all trade in shark fins.

"Speed" - Through to 2010 awards final round of judging - Category: Sharks

To all the other entrants that won, congratulations!! Great Job!! To all the photographers who did not win a prize, keep those photo's coming, every photograph taken promotes the beauty of our oceans and hopefully one day these photographs will help us protect our ever diminishing heritage.

Last but not least I have to say: South Africa is truly a dive destination that offers everything for photographers and I can only say one thing: "Proudly South African and loving it!"
